Summary Over 40 years' experience in research and education at universities • Member of three academic societies • Experience as a member of several government councils and committees • Experience as directors and auditors of four listed companies on Tokyo Stock Exchange • Author and co-author of many books and articles on finance and corporate governance |
||||
After Tak Wakasugi received his Master’s degree in Economics from the University
of Tokyo in 1968, he was hired as an assistant professor by University
Tokyo. Through Yokohama City University and Tohoku University, he returned
to University of Tokyo. After retiring from University of Tokyo because
of its age limit system, he moved to Tokyo Keizai University (2004-2013).
His present title is Co-director of Mitsui Life Financial Research Center,
Ross School of Business at University of Michigan. Outside the university his experience is in practice of corporate governance
as external directors (Ricoh Company and Nippon Suisan Kaisha) and as Audit
Committee Members (JFE Holdings and NTT DOCOMO). He also contributed to
the Government by sitting on a number of advisory council for several ministers.
For example he contributed to the minister of Postal Services and Telecommunication
committees through a couple of Councils for a long period, especially regarding
the Issue of Division of NTT. For the Ministry of Finance, he sat as a
special member of the Financial Investment Subcommittee within the Financial
System Advisory Council. Recent major focus of Tak Wakasugi is on corporate governance. His belief
is that a weak point of Japan’s economy is corporate governance that has
become a dead letter. To improve this situation he established Japan Corporate
Governance Research Institute in 2002 and is annually conducting corporate
governance survey on listed companies on Tokyo Stock Exchange. Tak Wakasugi is the author of a number of books, such as "Introduction
to Finance" (Author, Chuo Keizai, revised in 2011) “Modern Financial
Management Series” (Co-editor and Co-author, Chuo Keizai, 2009),” “Corporate
Governance Manual for Japanese Companies towards the 21st Century” (Editor
and Author; Chuo Keizai, 2008) and “Good Governance, Good Company” (Editor
and Co-author, 2000). |
